Game of the
Year
Brian Costelloe (16-8-07)
In a match that did everything to restore the faith in our abilities
we simply gelled and got most of the crucial plays right. To be
honest it wasn't our batting that secured this win. We were up
against a pumped up opponent. High fives after most plays, yells of
both support and put downs amongst each other. "The Biggest Losers"
(yes, unfortunate name) were ready to take this one out. But with a
big helping hand from Matty and his brilliant aggressive attack to
the back net and a rare six by none other then Langy in the double
over no less, Blackout set the pace for the rest of the game. 138
runs put Blackout in a dominating position.
Enter the fielding Blackout side. In comes the fireworks. We had
discussed some fielding changes in our meet up on the week end and
one of the biggest changes to occur was yours truly being moved up
to the back net for the first time in my Indoor career. Richo was
replacing my place down the front with Mark as the new keeper. The
results were almost immediate. With a shakey start at first from
myself up the back net I quickly turned that around stopping a few
certain backnetters and instigating a couple of wickets in the
process. One of those wickets was from a full diving save of mine to
stop a four. But that wasn't the impressive part. Mark nabs up the
loose ball from that save and sends it down to the keeper for a
direct hit, full court throw resulting in a run out.
Langy went on to play the game of his life with a brilliant over
that was only let down by a dropped opportunity that led to a six.
But with 3 (to be verified) wickets in the single over, Langy owned
the pitch. But despite everyone's brilliance (and there were too
many to note) the highlight for yours truly was what I have dubbed
the best play ever. A ball gets whacked towards Chewy who was
fielding midway on the leg side. Matt lunges at the ball off the net
and in a single action swings around to throw 180 degrees behind him
and shatters the stumps to totally remove any momentum the
opposition may have had with a mind staggering run out.
Three Stars were tough to pick but Langy took out 3, Todd with 2 and
Rashid with the final star.
Rashid Secures
Deal With Chewy!
Brian Costelloe (11-8-07)
An
exclusive deal has been struck by Blackout's Rashid to get Matty to
play in next Tuesday's game in an attempt to gain some real fire
power both in batting and bowling. With Blackout's recent struggle
with form it has been often commented that some younger fire power
would be welcomed. The likes of Chris and Waqas playing fulltime in
a Blackout squad would be a much needed change. So, Matty's ability
on the field is no secret to Blackout as he was playing with the
side for a few years and scaring the opposing sides into submission
with his scary bowling, lighting fast keeping and aggressive
batting. It will be a welcome addition to the side should he decide
to re-join on a fulltime basis. Matty's first return to Black will
be for our Round 4 game against a side yet to be named by Sportworld.

Fan Day Looms
Brian Costelloe (9-8-07)
This next fan day is going to be a beauty. We'll be starting
proceedings off at the Fish markets for breaky. After scoffing
scallops and the likes we'll trot on over to the Newtown game at
Henson park to see Newton Jets take on Penrith Panthers. On paper it
looks like it'll be a one sided affair with Panthers coming 2nd and
Jets squandering on the bottom of the ladder but Penrith lost to the
"Flair Bears" North Sydney side. Could be good! Well then finish off
by aiming for some unsuspecting pub at random to drink off the
evening's dusk. Just head to the Google Calendar to see more or
contact us direct during next weeks game.

Blackout Fight
Back
Brian Costelloe (9-8-07)
There's a match report somewhere out there in cyber land. But till I
track down Rob's email I can tell you that despite having only 6
men, Blackout crawled into the clutches of defeat and stole a
victory where a loss was almost certain. Blackout faced a full Full
House team and saw a rather large total amassed against them with
Full House batting first. 143 runs to beat. I can just imagine the
look on the boys faces as they attempted to bat against such a
looming total. But a valiant Blackout rocked on with the first two
pairs doing OK. But with Rashid and Langy's 6 partnership total it
looked dicey. With Langy and Rob to play out the last partnership...
well... I wouldn't want to have a weak heart while watching! The
rest of the details? Well... I'm going to leave the juicy details to
Rob's report! Congratulations to the boys on an outstanding effort!
Glad to be seeing a win finally to save the season.

Blackout Were
White Ousted
Brian Costelloe (2-8-07)
It was painful. Painful to watch. Painful to play. Just plain
painful to endure. We struggled every step of the way to reach a
minor 87 runs and we were lucky to get that! Rossi's, a new team
into the fray, gave us a wake up call. We failed to put any fear
into their side with missed opportunities, misfielding and dropped
catches. When it came to batting we also stumbled with run outs
where we normally don't get them. So nothing to report this week
except bad news. One or two highlights did come out of the match.
Rob was on fire. Hitting stumps, getting run outs and nabbing
catches. We were all cheering to see that. But this is the
performance we should all be inspired to put in as this is what the
other teams are doing week in, week out. A back net catch off the
last over by Rossi's player donning the Souths Jersey proved this.
It was a freakish performance up the back by a player we had all
pinned hoped on mis-fielding. However he was able to dive selflessly
to nab a catch. However it was all for nothing as Shorty ruled it to
be a six and voided the catch as a result.
Three Stars were three to Rob (3), two to Bruce (2) and last one to
Col (4) who backed up a brilliant performance last week.
